Teachers, trainer and researchers, Elena Dominguez and Jelena Bobina, talk about their Image Conference experience in Lisbon.

  1. What did you enjoy about The Image Conference?

We especially enjoyed the practical approach to the use of images in ELT, new ideas and teaching tips. We also enjoyed having been given the possibility of meeting the other Image speakers and exchanging our views, concerns and ideas with them.

  1. How was The Image Conference different from other conferences you’ve been to?

We had more speakers, more talks, more ideas, more teaching tips… It was great. Thank you for making it possible!

  1. Sum up your talk briefly.

Our talk was about digital oracy and the use of homemade videos to improve oracy skills. We think that a new digital era requires our students to develop new oracy skills that include the ability to speak to a camera. We shared our experience working with UPM students’ who were asked to develop their own video speeches as part of our course on English for Academic and Professional Communication.

  1. What were the main discussion points to arise in The Image Conference?

The use of images to teach moral and ethical issues

The use of video and images to teach literature

The use of images and students’ motivation
